NYP SIDM Fusion X 2010
NYP SIDM Fusion X 2010!
I visited the annual NYP SIDM Graduation Show, Fusion, a few weeks ago.
And I loved the atmosphere!
Fusion, to me, is a celebration and recognition for all the hard work students have put in through their course of study.
I'm glad that the graduates are proud and happy to be showing their work! :)
I saw some works with super potential in visual effects, character animation and not forgetting motion graphics. Mandl and Rifyal has good character animation to showcase, as well as Nigel and Marcus Lee in terms of concept art and illustrations.
It's the first batch of graduates for the Motion Graphics and Broadcast Design (MGBD) and I was looking forward to see their works.
It was great training to have industrial projects as their assignments for the MGBD graduates.
I had the opportunity to have a chat with some of the MGBD graduates, in particular, the Anomalyst - Jed, Chad, Mus and Ben.
They have a strong portfolio of industrial standard.
I really like their drive and motivation towards their creations and reaching out to clients with their works.
There is a lot of potential in this 4-man collaboration and I believe they will go far as they continue to stick to their goals.

NYP SIDM Visit
I went back to Nanyang Polytechnic a few weeks ago.
Visited my juniors who are currently preparing for their Fusion Graduation Show 2010. It's really heartening to see them doing well.
I had the chance to watch a few of the Final Year Projects that they have produced and I was impressed by them. Overall, the renderings has significantly improved.
I will like to specially mention An Jun and Ling Yang's team because I personally feel that they have successfully created a short film that is slightly long in duration but entertaining throughout. The best part is that I was told they had proper planning so they managed to finish the production phase of the whole short film in 2 weeks!

I have also always been very impressed by student works from Ecole Emile Cohl (EEC).
It goes to show that these 20 schools listed are really of superb quality!
I hope one day Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive and Digital Media can be amongst these! Jiayou! (;

Planning for Animation Sequence

3D Basic Bird in Maya
This is a long outdated video which I prepared almost 2 years ago.
It's not fully meant to be a tutorial hence the fast foward, but it'll be great if anyone finds this useful :P
I was modelling a basic 3D bird in Maya for a short film production I did in school called Gan Cheong Kin (GCK) Season 3.
It's kept really basic because of the style of the film, but it can be brought futher for zbrushing or mudboxing. The model is available from the free downloads section

This is the work in progress and composite breakdown for the 2009 Christmas Greeting Card I made for all my friends and visitors. =)
This videos shows how I created a 3D Christmas Card from the initial sketch to a 3D model and finally a 3D rendering.
Hope this inspires some of you out there who wants to create your own 3D Christmas Card!
I used Maya and Photoshop.
Took me about 2 days to complete this piece.
